
Teenager Killed in Shooting at Tom Lee Park Food Festival
A tragic incident unfolded at Tom Lee Park in Memphis on Sunday, April 13, 2025, during the Foodees Food and Culture Festival. A male teenager was shot and killed near the park’s Riverside Drive location, where over 50 food trucks and vendors were gathered.
Memphis Police Department officers responded to the scene just after 6:45 p.m. and found the teen deceased. The victim’s age has not been released, pending notification of next-of-kin. According to Lt. Col. Gary Badgett, the suspect is described as a young man, possibly a juvenile, wearing black clothes and a ski mask.
The MPD is urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that such incidents don’t define the city. “We are asking for the community’s help — if you saw anything or have any information, please come forward,” the department stated. The Foodees Food and Culture Festival, held from April 11-13, 2025, featured gourmet dishes, sweet treats, and handmade crafts. Tom Lee Park, a 31-acre public space on the Mississippi riverfront, has become a hub for community events and activities since its opening.
