
Unlicensed Juvenile Driver Arrested in Fatal Toms River Crash
A tragic car accident occurred in Toms River on Friday, March 7, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving two others critically injured. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has announced that the driver, an unlicensed juvenile, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, assault, and other counts related to the collision.
According to authorities, the juvenile driver was operating a white BMW at speeds exceeding 100 mph before crashing into a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 166. The accident occurred just before 11 p.m. after Toms River Township Police officers had attempted to pull over the vehicle earlier but discontinued their pursuit for safety reasons.
Seaside Heights Police reported that the BMW was traveling at 118 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone along Route 35 shortly before the crash. The driver, who did not possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license, was taken into custody at the scene and is currently being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
The victims, who were driving in the Toyota Camry, have not been identified. Two passengers in the Camry were severely injured and are in critical condition at nearby hospitals. A passenger in the BMW was treated for injuries and released, while another passenger was treated and sent home.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, and a warrant has been obtained for a blood draw on the driver. The results are pending.
