In a scathing attack, US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling him a “modestly successful comedian” and a “dictator.” Trump’s verbal assault comes amid ongoing peace talks between the US and Russia.
According to Trump, Zelenskyy has mismanaged the conflict, leading to unnecessary deaths and destruction. He claims that the US has spent $350 billion on the war, with $200 billion more than Europe, and that the US will not see any returns on its investment.
Trump also criticized Zelenskyy for admitting that half of the aid sent to Ukraine is missing, and for refusing to hold elections despite being unpopular in Ukrainian polls. He accused Zelenskyy of playing US President Joe Biden “like a fiddle” and warned that Ukraine’s president needs to act quickly or risk losing his country.
In contrast, Trump boasted that his administration is successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia, something he claims only he can achieve. He criticized Biden for not demanding equalization of aid from Europe and accused Zelenskyy of wanting to keep the “gravy train” of aid going.
The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for nearly a year, with millions displaced and thousands killed. The conflict has sparked a global response, with many countries providing aid and support to Ukraine.
