
Fatal Hit-and-Run Near USC Campus Leads to Arrest
COLUMBIA, S.C. – A fatal hit-and-run incident occurred near the University of South Carolina (USC) campus on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit (TSU).
The incident happened at the intersection of Blossom and Assembly Streets, where a motorcyclist was struck by a pickup truck. The driver and occupants of the pickup truck fled the scene, leaving the motorcyclist behind.
However, a TSU officer quickly responded to the scene and apprehended 24-year-old Rosali Fernandez Cruz, who was driving the pickup truck. Fernandez Cruz was arrested and charged with hit-and-run resulting in death, failure to render aid, and driving without a license.
Fernandez Cruz is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing. The Columbia Police Department is continuing to investigateĀ theĀ incident.
